Thin section bearings are used where space saving is very important. They are called thin section bearings because the difference between the inner and outer diameters is much less than with standard bearings. Thin section bearings are, therefore, also very narrow. These properties allow engineers to design more compact equipment.

Thanks to the thin rings and smaller balls, thin section bearings are excellent for low torque applications as they are easier to rotate. They have high rotational accuracy and good rigidity. They are also much lighter than standard bearings so offer weight saving, as well as space saving, advantages. Their load capacities are less than standard bearings, particularly the axial load capacity due to the shallower raceways.
