Stainless steel flanged miniature ball bearings for shaft sizes from 1mm to 9mm
These stainless-steel miniature flanged ball bearings are precision-engineered components designed for shaft sizes ranging from 1mm to 9mm. These bearings feature a solid steel flange on the outer ring, enabling easier installation and secure positioning within housings. This flange design is particularly advantageous in applications where axial movement or thrust loads are a concern, ensuring the bearing remains stable even in high-vibration environments.
See the product table below for dimensions, technical drawings and available variants in chrome steel and non-flanged options.
Key features of stainless-steel flanged miniature bearings
Solid steel flange for improved stability
The solid steel flange on the outer ring provides several benefits, including:
- Prevents axial movements: Ideal for applications involving thrust loads, the flange ensures the bearing remains securely located
- Improved vibration resistance: Flanged bearings maintain their position in housings subjected to high levels of vibration
- Temperature adaptability: Especially useful where housings made from materials with different thermal expansion rate may loosen the fit of non-flanged bearings
Material: KS440 stainless steel
EZO flanged stainless steel instrument bearings are made from KS440 stainless steel, also known as ACD34 or X65Cr13.
This grade of stainless steel has a greater load capacity than AISI-440C grade and better low noise qualities and good corrosion resistance.
High temperature performance
These bearings, with a stainless-steel retainer and a suitable high temperature lubricant, can be operated at temperatures of 250°C constant or up to 300°C intermittent. At temperatures exceeding these thresholds, the load capacity of the stainless steel may decrease.
Applications
Our flanged stainless-steel bearings are suitable for use in mildly corrosive environments as the steel is corrosion resistant but is affected by seawater and stronger acids or alkalis.
For highly corrosive environments, consider alternative options such as:
Lubrication options
Stainless steel bearings can be used without lubrication (dry), as they do not require preservative oil on their exterior surfaces. Various lubrication options include:
- Oil lubrication: Open bearings are typically oil lubricated
- Pre-lubricated with grease: Shielded or sealed bearings come pre-lubricated but can also be supplied with specific oils for low torque applications
- Custom lubrication: Thanks to our in-house lubrication facility, bearings can be tailored with customer-specified oils, greases or dry lubricants
Cage and retainer materials
The standard cage for stainless steel flanged miniature bearings is made from either AISI-304 or AISI-420 stainless steel. Variants include:
- One-piece crown cage: Common in very small or thin-section bearings
- Two-piece ribbon cage: Used in larger bearings for added strength
Sealing options
- Open bearings: Available for the smallest sizes and usually oil lubricated
- Shielded bearings: Made with AISI-304 stainless steel shields, suitable for grease or instrument oil lubrication
- Sealed bearings: Available with rubber or Teflon contact seals or low-friction non-contact rubber seals for specific applications

Load and speed ratings
The load ratings for these bearings are based on AISI-440C flanged bearings. EZO KS440 bearings offer even higher load capacities.
Key points:
- Maximum load and speed ratings: Used for theoretical life calculations
- Recommended operating conditions: Bearings should operate below maximum load and speed ratings to ensure optimal longevity
Why choose flanged stainless steel miniature bearings?
- Versatile applications: Perfect for high-vibration environments, mildly corrosive settings and applications requiring precise axial load handling
- Reliable materials: Superior KS440 stainless steel ensures durability, low noise and corrosion resistance
- Custom options: Available in a variety of sizes, lubrication types and sealing configurations to meet diverse needs
- Precision engineering: The solid steel flange and advanced design ensure optimal performance in demanding conditions

Click on INFO in the rows below to display technical drawings of the bearings with load and speed data. The load ratings shown are for AISI-440C flanged bearings. Load ratings are higher for EZO KS440 bearings.
Please note that the maximum loads and speeds are used in theoretical life calculations. It is recommended to use bearings at significantly less than the maximum load and speed ratings to ensure reasonable bearing life.
